Spring is here and as nature awakens, so should you. Once the sun hits those windows one can really become aware that a clean-up is a MUST, if the property needs to be sold any time soon.
To help with that, I’m giving you 9 tips on how to give your home a Spring makeover:
1. Make Those Windows Sparkle
Use a sunny weekend to clean all your windows, especially in the rooms that will be most visited by the potential buyers. Think of it as a nice exercise for your body since there will be a little bit of sweating to go through all those windows after a long winter break. Clean, wax, polish. Get those mirrors to reflect sunlight and brighten up your home.
2. Clean The Drapes And Curtains Or Choose New Colours
What good is a fantastic window clean if you cover it with dusty dark drapes. It’s Spring, let the light in. Wash your curtains or dry-clean them and make sure they are steamed well. If you have dark colours, invest in new ones, in green, yellow, light blue or any bright colour. Such a low-cost change can make a huge difference at Spring time.
3. Polish Those Floors And Clean The Rugs
Sun will reflect on the polished wooden floors and ceramic tiles and you want to make them spotless when a buyer comes to check your home. Vacuum and deep clean those dusty rugs. Use steamer for all areas and destroy all germs. Clean house will make those potential buyers want to stay longer and see more.
4. Clean Kitchen Elements, Tables And Shelves
Wipe away those fingerprints from your fridge or glass table. If you cook a lot in your kitchen, you will have to spend some serious time in order to degrease the areas around your stove and your oven too. If someone comes to check out your kitchen, they would want to see that it was well maintained. Don’t forget to dust off your shelves and all the items you want to keep on them.
5. Don’t Forget The Bathroom
If you have a lovely new bathroom, nobody will notice it if it’s dirty. Clean it thoroughly and prepare for every house showing. If you have an old bathroom, consider renovating it, since this is a very important aspect when a buyer comes to check every corner of the house. Some people simply like to have everything looking nice and don’t want to invest in the renovations later on. If this is out of your budget, make it spotless, put some nice air freshener and lay new rugs.
6. Get Rid Of Your Clutter
Make your home a place that someone will want to make their own. Buyers can’t picture themselves in a room full of other people’s memories. Sure, you and your family are used to putting certain stuff at certain places, but now it’s time to get rid of the box full of bills, or small stuff you don’t know where else to put. Simply organize in advance and store them in boxes that you will move.
7. Go Outside And Mow That Lawn
Snow has melted away and your lawn definitely needs some attention. Landscaping can make a great first impression and can often be a deal-maker or breaker. Tidy up that grass, plant some new flowers and clean the trash that has been trapped under the snow for months.
8. Do Your Own Small Repairs
Make a list of all those small repairs that you have been postponing, like fixing that doorbell and mailbox. If you have a wooden fence, consider refreshing the paint on it. If there is something squeaking inside, lubricate it or replace it. These small investments can certainly improve the overall impressions of your visitors.
9. Always Consult With Your Realtor
Bigger work, means higher costs for the repair, so you can either invest in those yourself and come up with a new price, or you can just leave it as is and the future owner can invest in those, since you are offering an affordable deal for your home. Remember to always consult your Real-Estate Agent before making any big decisions that can affect the value of your property.
